History & Purpose

New York Urban Progress Inc. (“NYUP”) was organized in the fall of 2017 to serve as a vehicle for a diverse group of Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (“MWBEs”), industry groups and business and civic leaders to come together as a coalition to support continuing and strengthening New York State’s MWBE Program. Our focus is the legislative session commencing in January 2018.

The State’s MWBE Program is scheduled to expire if not reauthorized by June 2018. The State’s MWBE Program is expected to undergo significant legislative changes in this coming session, including changes as a result of the completion of the recent disparity study “State of New York 2016 MWBE Disparity Study, Final Report, June 2017”.

The coalition will contribute the critical voices of a diverse range of MWBEs and other stakeholders focused on making New York State’s MWBE Program a model for the nation.
